Love really is all around
Do you remember that line? From “Love Actually?”
Today, surprisingly, I’ve been a hype-person from Valentines day. But I’ve been pushing that idea that today is ‘love’ day—to my classes and on social media, with my friends.
I am so thankful to be surrounded by all the love that I am. To have known all the love that I have had. And I’m blessed to have known and experienced a lot of love.
Today, I remember my beloveds. I remember my mother and grandmother and aunt and great aunt.
I think about and honor my childhood best friend and all of my loving and solid friends that I have now—from penpals to those who live nearby, and those who live far away.
I have known love. Oh, such love. And I have given away deep love. Easily. Too often, too easily.
And while I sometimes chastise myself for having given so much, too much, loving those who didn’t deserve it, I also recognize it says more about me and my capacity to love and give it, then it does about those who didn’t give back, and reciprocate mine.
I heard it said today and I completely agree: we are put on this Earth to love.
I have so many people that I love and who love me, for this I am deeply grateful today.
That in spite of all the shit and hatred, judgments and war and awfulness of this world—
There is also great love.
