In mid-September there are community walks out of darkness.
These are done to raise awareness, fundraise, and prevent suicide.
They are nation-wide efforts done for the American Suicide Prevention.
These is one in Clarksville today and one in Hopkinsville.
I’m going to participate in the one in Hopkinsville.
You may donate if you feel so inclined. I donated 50 dollars and if I get to 150 then I get a free t-shirt.
You get to wear beads to represent your personal affiliation with suicide loss. For each category you get a different colored set of beads.
I have quite a few. Thinking I’ll be looking a bit like I’m going to Mardi Gras - loss of brother, loss of aunt, loss of dad, awareness for LGBTQAI+ suicide loss, personal struggles.
It’s a good cause.
As the fundraising page says—it’s a leading cause of death but often times does not get the attention, awareness and preventative measures that it needs and deserves because of the stigma.
Consider raising money and/or awareness, to advocate.
